3D Imaging

Digital x-rays have largely replaced traditional ones, thanks to their high accuracy, safety, and convenience.

For more detailed imaging and treatment planning, The QPD also employs advanced 3D imaging, which utilizes cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to produce a digital 3D image of your teeth, roots, jawbone structure, and oral tissues. The image quality from 3D scans are higher quality than other types of scans, providing our team with accurate information to help develop your treatment plan. (One major advantage of the 3D technology is its ability to capture the image of both bone and soft tissue at the same time, which is not possible with 2D imaging.)

The scan is painless and highly accurate. The image is created by taking multiple cone beam x-ray images from different angles, then combining them into a comprehensive model of your mouth. The doctors at The QPD use 3D dental imaging systems for a variety of clinical applications, such as dental implant planning, visualizing the progress of abnormal teeth, diagnosing root canal issues, confirming fractures, etc. It allows our team to get a fuller picture of the anatomical structure of the patient.

At The QPD, we have an Ultra-Low Dose imaging device for digital panoramic and cone beam 3D imaging, enabling CBCT imaging with a significantly lower dose than standard imaging, and without a statistical reduction in image quality. Patients benefit from improved 3D diagnostics without being exposed to a high radiation dose. Rest assured that we will only use this technology when it is necessary and when it will directly benefit the patient.

If you have a tooth that is severely decayed or broken, our Long Island City office can help you save it with a custom-made dental crown. This type of restoration is designed to be placed over a vulnerable tooth, protecting it from further harm and preserving the root underneath. Many types of crowns are possible, and our dentists are up-to-date on all the best material choices. For example, ceramic crowns are designed to closely mimic the luminescence of natural enamel. We always strive for the most natural looking results possible, but also take into account strength and longevity of the restoration of choice.
